Rochester

Lying on the historically heavily-fished Medway estuary, fishing in Rochester has been managed by the Rochester Oyster and Floating Fishery (ROFF) since 1729, a working guild who regulate the fishery for the benefit of the local community. Hopeful fishermen must complete a seven year apprenticeship before they can fish for the area’s oysters and fresh fish, here they learn about the seasonal changes to the fishing and how to respond to these with different fishing methods.
